Contributing toward a renewal in faithful Catholic education, the University of St. Thomas-Houston hosted the 2024 Newman Guide College Leaders Summit on its campus June 12 – 14. UST President Dr. Richard Ludwick delivered the opening keynote address to prominent leaders in Catholic higher education from around the country who came together to plan new opportunities for collaboration and share best practices. Since 2007, The Cardinal Newman Guide, developed by The Cardinal Newman Society, has been a trusted resource for recognizing model Catholic colleges, supporting parents and students in “finding a pathway to a seamless faithful Catholic education.” The Newman Guide rigorously vets colleges like UST to “ensure they have strong policies and standards that uphold Catholic identity from academics and athletics to faculty hiring and campus life.” Calling for Unity in Purpose The Summit’s theme was “Our Shared Mission” and aimed to address the dramatic decline in Catholic school enrollment since 1965. While some universities, such as UST, are reporting record-breaking admissions numbers, Catholic school enrollment, according to the National Catholic Register, has plummeted by two-thirds overall since 1965.
